UEM Students Win 2015 Laureate Award in Robotics Engineering

Six finalists from network universities around the world competed in the Second Edition of the Laureate Award for Excellence in Robotics Engineering held at Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM) to determine the winning team:

  • University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES)
  • Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM)
  • Istanbul Bilgi University (BILGI)
  • Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS)
  • Universidad del Valle Mexico (UVM)
  • Universidad de las Americas (UDLA Ecuador)

The Laureate Award for Excellence in Robotic Engineering invited undergraduate students enrolled in Laureate Institutions to develop interactive robotic systems able to monitor, for a period of twenty four (24) consecutive hours the air quality at indoor and outdoor spaces of Laureate campuses through physical-chemical parameters under the theme “Environmental Management: Air Quality”. This year the jury members of External Committee were Nereu Rossi from Continental AG, Jesus del Alamo from MIT and Robert Ambrogi from Kiva Systems.

After careful consideration members of the External Committee awarded the first place for a USD $20,000 cash prize and a trip to present robot at the Laureate Leadership Summit (LLS) to the JUBA II team from Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM). Congratulations to Professor Victor Padron, Team Leader Eric Fernandez and team members Mila Puig, Javier Collado and Carlos Garcia.

The Second place to Ventus v.1.0 team from Istanbul Bilgi University and third place to Samaybot from Universidad de las Américas Ecuador received a certificate of participation and an external hard drive during final event at UEM.

We would also like to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of our hosts, Águeda Benito, Rector at UEM; Gonzalo Mariscal, UEM International Area Manager and Nourdine Aliane, UEM Creative Services Manager, Industrial Engineering Department as well as the internal committee which includes Miguel Gomez, Ahmet Denker, Kamal Bansal, Rafael Araujo and Eduardo Garcia.
